Province 8 Presentation

The new structure and the programs of Province 8 were described to members of Executive Council during their March meeting in Portland.

Province 8 includes dioceses in the western United States, Alaska, Hawaii and Taiwan – and the Diocese of Utah.

The presentation was made the Rev. Butch Gamarra of Los Angeles, one of the provincial representatives on Executive Council. He said that he believed it was the first time that a provincial presentation had been made during an Executive Council meeting.

The meetings have traditionally included presentations from the host diocese.

Under the province's new structure, the programs of the province are ground into one of three clusters: formation, women's ministries and inter-cultural.

Activities for this year include a stewardship conference in Sacramento in March, provincial youth event in Salt Lake City during July, and continuing work on a new curriculum for Native American ministry.

The presentation included a welcome from the Rt. Rev. Johncy Itty, Bishop of Oregon. He noted that Presiding Bishop Katharine Jefferts Schori began her ordained ministry in that Diocese, and welcomed her "home."
