Facilities Cornerstone group kept busy with many projects
Within the past few months, the Facilities Cornerstone group within the Living Boldly plan has been very busy. This group is concerned with buildings and land that support all of the ministries of the Diocese.
Excitement abounds, from the dedication of the new St. Peter's Church in Clearfield in October to the most recent land transaction (in Southern Utah) during late February and early March.
Building design work has commenced for a new sanctuary for the Church of the Good Shepherd in Ogden, remodeling of St. Francis' Church in Moab, a major redevelopment of St. David's Church in Page, and a new vicarage in Randlett.
Construction continues for the new parish hall for the Cathedral Church of St. Mark and the Episcopal Church Center. The parish hall is virtually complete and the Church Center is due to be completed in early October. Post-construction work at St. Barnabas' Church in Tooele, and St. James' Church in Midvale will resume after the winter snows have left.
Real estate transactions have been completed, to acquire sites for future churches and to sell surplus properties to help pay for existing projects.
These include purchases of land in Ivins, near St. George, and in Ogden for the Good Shepherd project.
Land sales include a lot in Ogden known as the "Woodmansee Property," the "Parkway" property east of the Cathedral parish hall, and approximately fourteen acres adjacent to Ascension St. Matthews Church in Price. Purchase of a property in Hurricane is pending.
The Church of the Good Shepherd is conducting a capital campaign for its project. Another group is conducting a capital campaign for the Episcopal Church Center.
Our goal continues to be that our building projects be completed with little or no debt service burden.
In the coming months, design and construction work will continue on these projects. The projects in Moab, Page and Randlett should break ground by summer, with Ogden soon thereafter to follow.
Please feel free to address any questions regarding these activities to the Facilities Group, Diocesan Council at the Diocesan offices.
