St. Paul's Opens Saturday Food Pantry

Those in need of food can find Utah's largest urban area a lonely place on the weekend. Virtually all municipal food shelters are closed on Saturday and Sunday. The Salt Lake parish is now opening a food pantry on Saturday. The Rev. Deacon Steve Alder says a Saturday pantry also presents the opportunity for more parishioners to donate time and resources. The all-volunteer pantry has become a place of beloved service. Deacon Alder says a recent call for donations netted more than 70 jars of peanut butter and 75 pounds of rice, which were specifically requested, along with pasta, canned goods and other items.

The St. Paul's pantry is affiliated with the Utah Food Bank Services and will report demographic information to that agency. It is an emergency food pantry only, and does not have vouchers or resources to assist with rent, prescriptions, gas or other expenses. The pantry is part of the historic St. Paul's complex on Ninth East and Third South in Salt Lake City.
