Facilities Cornerstone

The Diocesan Council Cornerstone

Editor's note: The Diocese operates with a council representing "cornerstones of mission and ministry." As a regular feature of the Dialogue, one cornerstone will supply an update of its work each month. The Cornerstones, as detailed in the five year plan "Living Boldly," are Evangelism, Stewardship, Education and Spiritual Development, Focused Missions and Ministries, Social Justice, Advocacy, and Service, Leadership, and Facilities. The first update comes from the Facilities Cornerstone represented by Steve Hutchinson, who is also the Chancellor of the Diocese.

There is a lot of activity underway around the Diocese in terms of facilities construction, remodeling and updating.

St. Francis is one of the latest churches to get a "make-over." The Moab church grew out of the uranium boom era of the 1950's. This photo, taken during an earlier phase of the recent reconstruction shows the extent of remodeling. St. Francis and the new Mission de San Francisco will share the building when it reopens this spring.

Spring is an important time of year for cleaning inside and outside areas of our buildings, and for performing routine maintenance tasks. Most congregations rely on volunteers to assist in this seasonal effort, so all are encouraged to participate.

The current remodeling projects at St. Francis, Moab, and St. David's, Page, are well underway and nearing final completion. Both congregations expect to celebrate the conclusion of these historic renovation and expansion projects within the next two months.

The Church of the Good Shepherd in Ogden is in the midst of a significant capital campaign for its major expansion. This includes a new sanctuary and ultimately much needed education and office space. Work has already been undertaken to update and upgrade windows and other features of the existing church building.

The leadership of St. Luke's Church in Park City is working in partnership with the Diocese and various consultants to address serious roof problems. These problems have certainly been exacerbated by the huge snowfalls and ice buildup during the winter. The scope and timing of the roof project is currently being developed and will be announced soon.

The Diocese occupied its new quarters at the Episcopal Church Center of Utah over the New Year's Day weekend. While it has been a challenge to conduct operations in the middle of a construction site, the staff, contractors and architects have all worked collaboratively to minimize the logistical challenges of such coexistence. Nearly all of the interior spaces have been completed and the exciting new landscaping scheme will be completed as soon as weather permits. Please stop in to visit and enjoy your new Diocesan offices and Conference Center.
