All Saints to enrich successful ministry for "Lost Boys" of the Sudan

All Saints of Salt Lake has given support to nearly a hundred of the "Lost Boys" of the Sudan. A major ministry includes a college fund, which is now at $35,000. The church hopes to add to that fund and increase the ministry with an auction on April 4th in the parish hall. The 6:30 p.m. event is the main fundraiser for the ministry.

Atem
Gabriel Atem pauses in telling his story about growing up as a "Lost Boy" and ending up active in the ministry of All Saints.

Gabriel Atem is one of the "Lost Boys" who is active in the life of All Saints. The 26-year-old became one of the thousands of "Lost Boys" when his village was attacked in the Sudan. After a childhood of living as one of the seemingly nameless and faceless war victims in Africa, he ended up in America. All Saints has been a home. The parish has helped him attend Salt Lake Community College and the church has been an anchor in his life as he works two jobs in Salt Lake City. He is saving up to bring his wife and children to Utah and to teach the young about the word of God.

The Rev. Michael Mayor says All Saints also plans to raise funds for a building project in Africa in partnership with the Episcopal Church of the Sudan. Above, the "Lost Boys" of the Sudan present music for a service at All Saints.
