Coffee Hour: What's Perkin' in the Parishes

When we were children Advent was a season only to be endured until Christmas, when Santa arrived with his sack of gifts. This Advent give yourself the gift of time and space, ritual and community, allowing this season of anticipation to prepare you for the greatest gift of Christ's birth.
Please come to St. Mark's Cathedral, 231 East 100 South, Salt Lake City on Saturday, Dec. 9 at 3 p.m. for a service of gratitude and thanksgiving. All are welcome as we meet together in the sacred space of the Cathedral to create a holy time of reflection and community. Afterward we'll gather for conversation and refreshments. A Wednesday evening series called "Good News for the Poor: The Gospel of Luke," is being held at St. John's, Logan. There is a potluck dinner and gospel discussionwhich starts at 6:15 each Wednesday.
Annie Nau is the new parish administrator at St. Paul's, Salt Lake City. She is married to Pastor Joel Nau, Lumen chaplain.
St. James, Midvale, is conducting dinner groups. The newsletter notes that it is a "great experience and an opportunity to get know people...and it is unlikely anyone would bring a Jello product."
The Episcopal Peace Fellowship's "Creating a Culture of Peace" nonviolence training project is being offered. Information is available from Nick Chavasse at nvprogramcoordinator@epfnational.org.
St. Paul's, Vernal, held its pledge card drive on Sunday, Nov. 19.
Dovie's chapter of the Order of Daughters of the King has started at Resurrection, Centerville.
The first Sunday of each month is food pantry day at St. David's, Page, Ariz.
Thanksgiving Dinner, a St. David's tradition, provides an opportunity for people with no family nearby to join together for a celebration and meal together.
St. Michael's, Brigham City, will hold a dinner for everyone in the parish who wishes to attend on Thanksgiving Day. Eucharist will be celebrated at 11, and members of the congregation have been invited to participate in a Thanksgiving Dinner in Hannifin Hall following the worship.
The UTO ingathering at St. Barnabas, Tooele, will be held on Dec. 10.
