Memorial Held for Judy Ver Straten

Memorial Service for Judith Glen Ver Straten was held Jan. 13 at St. Barnabas Church, Tooele.

The wife of the Rev. Stanley Ver Straten, she was born Jan. 10, 1942, and died on Dec. 16. She was an active partner in her husband's ministries in the western and Southwestern United States. They were married on Sept. 9, 1960, in Lander, Wyo.

As a homemaker, she loved cooking, canning and preserving from a bountiful garden. On the Shoshone and Arapaho Reservations she always had the coffee pot on loved learning Natrive American arts.

The floral gardens in Ethete, Wyo., attracted tourists who admired her handiwork.

One of her greatest interests was as a breeder, owner and handler of Australian Cattle Dogs. She raised and showed numerous champions.

She is survived by her husband; her son Scott and his wife Debbie of Bagdad, Ariz.; her son Steve and his wife Michelle of Gilbert, Ariz.; and her daughter Shauna Russell and husband Butch of Conway, Ark. There are six grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

The Rev. Canon David Bailey presided at the memorial service. The community choir, which she had supported, performed a special musical offering in her memory.

A memorial fund has been established at St. Barnabas.
