Spirit of the Desert
An Episcopal Community
A new home church has started in Kayenta, near St. George, as a mission
project of Grace Church.
The group, known as Spirit of the Desert,
meets on Thursday evenings in the home of the Rev. Susan Wiltse in
Kayenta.
Out beyond right and wrong
There is a field
Will you meet me there?
--Rumi
Fifty-five people attended the first liturgy in December.
Wiltse called it "a beginning."
She described Spirit of
the Desert as "an inclusive Episcopal community where everyone
is welcome from any—or no—faith tradition."
She added
that "seekers and questioners" are encouraged to attend.
Michael
Smith, senior warden at Grace, said the house church is a mission project
of Grace. He added that he hopes there will be another such effort
in Hurricane, another community near St. George, which has been described
as one of the fastest growing communities in the United States.
