Plans for Diocesan Convention in October at St. Mark's

By Vicki Evans

Several regions of the diocese will be holding gatherings on the weekend of Saturday, Sept. 22, in preparation for this year's diocesan convention.

The Northern Region will be electing a new regional Diocesan Council representative for the 2007-2010 term.

Those attending the regional meetings will also have an opportunity to look at nominations and resolutions for the convention.

The deadline for nominations and resolutions is Aug. 11. An early submission of resolutions is imperative due to limited presentation time during the one-day business meeting.

Resolutions will go to the Resolutions and Canons Committee when appropriate for review and then on to the regional meetings for discussion.

Resolutions may be considered during the allotted time at convention. Any resolutions remaining after time has expired will be directed to Diocesan Council for disposition.

Nomination and resolution forms are available at the website www.episcopal-ut.org, or from your parish office, or the Diocesan office.

Diocesan Convention will be held at the Cathedral Church of St. Mark Oct. 26-27.

The Convention Eucharist will be conducted by the Native American Ministries team on Friday evening followed by a special feast.

Guest preacher for the Eucharist will be the Rt. Rev. Steven Charleston, President and Dean of Episcopal Divinity School in Cambridge, Mass.

Convention will officially open for business after dinner on Friday night when the first ballot will be cast. Convention will adjourn no later than 5:45 pm on Saturday, Oct. 27.

Registration materials and forms will be mailed to each congregation (and others) sometime in July. The registration amount for those registering by the early-bird special deadline of Sept. 27 is $75 per person.

Hotel accommodations have been contracted with the Crystal Inn in downtown Salt Lake City at a rate of $69 per night. Information for making reservations will be included in the registration packets.

Please notify Vicki Evans or Mary Kay Williams at the Diocesan offices with any questions. The phone number is 801-322-4131 or 800-343-4756. Vicki Evans may be reached at e-mail address vevans@episcopal-ut.org.
