The close of the 2006-2007 academic year provides an excellent opportunity for the members of Lumen Campus ministry to reflect on the offerings of this eventful school year, and to look forward to new areas of ministry as they look to the fall semester. The Spring 2007 semester was especially active with the following events:

  • Weekly Worship and Meal— Sunday evenings at 6 p.m. at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church. This term worship was offered in varying formats, from Rite II to Taize and Godspell.
  • Winter Leadership Weekend Retreat— an opportunity to reflect on one's vocation in the company of friends at Camp Tuttle.
  • Laundry and Game Nights— Students meet at a local laundromat to wash a few loads and play games with their friends at the same time.
  • Engage!— our midweek Christian education gathering. Students met weekly at St. Paul's Episcopal Church for spirited conversation on current topics of interest, including: evolution, fundamentalism, biblical archeology, feminism, just war theory, liberation theology, and even an evening with the Bishop!
  • Virgina Tech Vigil— on April 19 in the Student Union on campus
  • Breakfast Preparation for Family Promise / SLIHN at St. Paul's Episcopal Church
  • Final Bowling Party to close the year.

Special thanks to our student preachers Adam Collier, Jack Patrick Lewis, and April Hewes.

The Lumen community offers thanksgiving and Godspeed to seniors Anna Hathaway and Jack Patrick Lewis. Anna graduated with a BS in Biology, and hopes to attend graduate school in the fall at a place to be determined. Jack (BA in Middle East and International Studies) was the recipent of the College of the Humanities' Young Alumni Association Outstanding Senior Award, and will continue his education at Eden Theological Seminary in order to pursue ordination.

The Rev. Joel Lau is chaplain for Lumen
