Day of Discovery Registration Set
July 23
"Day of Discovery" is designed
for Episcopalians to discover new
arenas for individual ministry and
to answer questions about discernment.
It is sponsored by the diocesan
Commission on Ministry and will
be held Saturday, Aug. 4 at St.
Paul's Parish in Salt Lake.
"This exciting program offers
an introductory way to discern
your ministry in the Episcopal
Church. At the end of the day, you
will have gained an understanding
and appreciation of how the
Episcopal Church expresses the
ministry of Christ, and how you
may fit into the daily work and
ministry of every baptized member
of the Church. It will help you
begin a continuing process of discernment
that will affirm what you
do every day as ministry, as well as
open new avenues of service," said
Vicki Evans, diocesan staff coordinator
for the COM.
"Day of Discovery" registration
will begin at 8:30 a.m. The program
starts at 9 a.m. and will end
at 4 p.m. There is a $40 fee for
the day, which includes materials
and lunch.
Presenters will be Linda
Curtoys, MS and the Rev. Sam
McClain, who created this program
and have presented it to numerous
dioceses in the U.S. This is their
third presentation in Utah.
Some participants may wish to
continue on with a more in-depth
program designed to assist in further,
deeper, discernment of a call.
This second program is "Context for Ministry" and takes 12 weeks to finish. Most of the work is
done individually in your home
parish or in small regional groups
(depending on who signs up).
The 12-week program will
assist in bridging the gap between
the belief that God is present in the
whole of life, and the practice of
that belief. Cost for the "Context
for Ministry" workbook will be
$50, in addition to the $40 for the"Day of Discovery." Those eventually seeking ordination will be expected to have completed both programs in their entirety.
For more information, please contact Vicki Evans at the Diocesan office at vevans@episcopal-ut.org. Registration will be on a first-come, first-serve basis, with a cap at 40 participants. Brochures with registration forms are available from your church office or at www.episcopal-ut.org.
