Vernal Church Sponsors Relay for Life

St. Paul's, Vernal, sponsored its first Relay for Life team this year, and are elated with the parish-wide participation and number of team members who collected money, sold luminarias, and walked throughout the night and into Saturday morning.

The Rev. Nina Stasser said that the theme of the Uintah County Relay was the "fabulous 50's," and St. Paul's created their campsite/ booth as a 50's soda shop, selling root beer and cherry Coke floats to participants and spectators until one in the morning!

All proceeds of the soda shop and raffled items (a quilt, a crocheted throw and beaded jewelry – made by members of the parish) were added to the total amount raised in this event for the American Cancer Society, almost $18,000!

Team members had an extra surprise on Sunday morning when team captain, Cheryl Oldham, announced that St. Paul's had won the best-decorated campsite/booth. The trophy is proudly displayed in the parish house.
