Parishioners joined the Right Rev. Carolyn Tanner Irish in the installation of the Rev. Dr. Catherine Colletta Gregg as the church rector and witnessed the confirmation, reception and reaffirmation of 22 members of Grace Church, St. George, Spirit of the Desert, an Episcopal Community, Ivins and St. David's Church in Page, Ariz.

There was great rejoicing from the opening hymn, In the Name of Christ, We Gather, through the Liturgy of the Word, the Baptismal Covenant and the presentation and examination of the candidates for Confirmation, Reception and Reaffirmation and the celebration of the new ministry followed by Holy Eucharist.

Special musical selections were performed by soloists—Lynn Goffiney, Susan Ertel and the Rev. Canon Mary June Nestler— throughout the service.

Bishop Irish spoke on the history and progress of the Anglican Church, and in particular, the Episcopal Church in the United States.

Those confirmed were: Kathryn Jean Berryman, Kyle David Berryman, Priscilla Edwards, Lorelle Ellis, Dee Dee Maestas, Trisha Elizabeth Smith, Kathleen Kinsey Wayman and Richard Stratton Wayman.

Those received into church membership were Antonio J. Calderon, Jerri L. Dunn, Tom Edwards and Frederick Leo Saasta (all of whom are from St. George). Robert Barnett, Kimberly Napier Barnett, Ruby Brenner, Dorothy J. Hendrix and Jeanne Jackson were received and are from St. David's in Page.

Michael Bower Ellis, Sr., Marie and Ray Kattler and Gabrielle Saasta (all of St. George) and Katherine Downing Mays of Ivins were reaffirmed.

During the new rector's induction there were a number of presentations including a Bible to “proclaim the word”, water, anointing oil, keys to the church, a copy of the Canons of the Church, along with bread and water. Presentations were made by members of the vestry and members of the congregation.

The Rev. Dr. Fred Quinn read the gospel. Other readers included the Rev. Dr. Douglas Gregg, Cynthia Stewart and Tricia King.

The Rev. Dr. Catherine Gregg and her husband, Douglas, moved to St. George from Southern California three months ago and celebrated their first service at Grace on Feb. 3.
