Spring Weekend 2008

Dear Friends in Christ,

It is with great joy that I anticipate our Spring Weekend this year, April 18-19, with special guest The Most Rev. Katharine Jefferts Schori. I welcome all of you to share in this joy.

Friday of Spring Weekend will be Conference Day. The Presiding Bishop will speak on several occasions, and the day will end with a gala dinner. Registration is required for Conference Day. Please plan to register early—by March 15 at the latest.

Saturday will be Celebration Day. All events on this day are free and open to the public, with no registration required. See below for details about both these days.

Bishop Katharine will have been our Presiding Bishop for about one and a half years when she visits us. As you know, this has not been an easy time to take on such a leadership position, but I can assure you that she does have solid support from nearly all of the bishops in our Province (The Episcopal Church or 'TEC' as we are now called) and many in the Anglican Communion as well. She represents us well in the many Anglican bodies and gatherings.

Her time here is carefully planned to include sessions with members of the Diocese (including our youth) and with others in the larger community. She and others traveling with her will stay in the residential wing of our new Episcopal Church Center of Utah, and we will name the guest apartment there in her honor at the House Blessing following lunch on Saturday.

It has been some time since we had a Spring Weekend, so this will be an especially welcome occasion, with many of you seeing our new Center for the first time. I know you will find Bishop Katharine to be a woman of great spiritual depth, gentle humor and extraordinary wisdom.

Faithfully,
Bishop Carolyn Tanner Irish 10th Bishop of Utah
