Close-up with the Presiding Bishop

A half dozen press visits, being received by the LDS Church First Presidency, lunches, speeches, conference sessions, services, receptions, and photo opportunities made up a minute-by-minute schedule for the Presiding Bishop.

Bishop Schori
Bishop Jefferts Schori tells reporter Carrie Moore at 9:00 that we must embrace diversity. The Deseret Morning News reporter interviews her for the next half hour.

With camera in hand, the Most Rev. Katharine Jefferts Schori's husband, Richard Schori, accompanied her. He has shared his photographs with the Dialogue, giving a close-up look of a leader seldom seen by those not in the meetings or official gatherings. It is a special look at one of the most dynamic religious leaders in the United States. Photographers Judy Kiel and Willy Bautner joined your editor of the Dialogue in also capturing hundreds of photos. Thirteen-year-old Helena Duncan also shot photos for an article from the youth perspective. Jerry Johnson shot photos of the St. Mark's service and kindly shared one of our cover page photos.

Bishop Jefferts Schori and Bishop Irish spend 45 minutes with the Deseret Morning News editorial board. Jefferts Schori responds to a question about division within the church with the statement that people used to kill over the question of using candles in the service. She hopes today's issues of division will someday be regarded in the same way as the old candle issue.

Therefore, we give you almost a minute by minute view of the Presiding Bishop as she met, preached, conducted sessions, lunched, and responded to questions for hours at a time.
