Diocese to raise money for a truck

The Rt. Rev. Carolyn Tanner Irish has asked the people of the Utah Diocese to help an impoverished Myanmar diocese purchase a truck. The Men's Association of the Diocese of Myitkyina needs a truck to serve as a hearse and to create a source of income for the group and the diocese. The men's group would haul goods for others as a fundraising activity. Such vehicles are financially prohibitive to purchase without help.

The Bishop of Utah is asking the diocese to raise $5000 that would complete the $7000 purchase. The Men's Association has already picked out the vehicle that would serve both as the local hearse and cargo hauler. It is a Chinese made "Dong Feng." The men's group has put together a business plan for the vehicle that calls for them to hire out the cargo services at 15-percent less than prevailing prices, calls for proper maintenance for a longer life of vehicle service, and offers oversight by the Diocese of Myitkyina standing committee.
