Gospels, and Spirituality of Advent
Saturday, December 1 9 a.m. until Noon
St.
Paul's Episcopal Church, 261 South 900 East, SLC
Presenters:
The Rev. Canon Mary June Nestler and the Rev. Dr. Frederick Quinn
The
four Sundays before Christmas mark a distinctly different season in
the Christian year. Advent is a focused time of longing, expectation,
and preparation for the birth of the Christ child. Some of the most
beautiful religious music of the Christian tradition has been written
for Advent, including many hymns in the Catholic, Lutheran, Methodist,
and Episcopal traditions.
Mary June Nestler, trained as a professional
singer at Philadelphia's Curtis Institute, and Frederick Quinn,
who has presented numerous programs on great religious music, discuss
the spirituality of the Advent season from Bible readings and music.
Ample opportunity is provided for the singing of hymns, old and new,
and for group discussion. No prior musical training required. Donation
requested: $7 which includes refreshments, including specially prepared
German holiday pastries. To register, contact Angela Rogers at arogers@episcopalut.
