Tony Nakai Begay, believed to have been the oldest Episcopalian in Utah, died July 15 at a Cortez, Colo., nursing home.

His son Willis Nakai of Blanding noted that "confused" Navajo tribal records placed his age at a minimum of 107, and probably closer to 114 when he died. He was a rancher all his life and also worked for the Union Pacific Railroad.

A life-long resident of the region near Bluff, he was born prior to the arrival of the first Episcopal missionaries at St. Christopher's, Bluff and was baptized at St. Christopher's.

His wife, Hilda Nakai, preceded him in death. He is survived by 10 children, all whom were present for his graveside funeral service, which was conducted by Deacon Pat Cook of St. Christopher's at the family cemetery.
