The Episcopal Church Center Resource Network Proposal
In 2005, at Diocesan Convention, the members of Diocesan Council presented and delegates subsequently adopted "Living Boldly, a Five-Year Plan for the Diocese of Utah. (Follow this link to view the full report in PDF format.)
The plan represents the confluence of several streams over a 10-year process of dreaming, of deciding who we were and are, what we want to be and how to shape the future we envision. The process flow led us from diocesan profile in 1995 to study, adaptation and implementation of the 2000 Thoughtbridge consultants' recommendations through strategic planning in 2003 and a Five-Year Plan of Action reported out in 2005. In 2006 Council members continue to learn how to exercise leadership to implement goals for the Plan's seven "Cornerstones:"
- Evangelism
- Stewardship
- Education and Spiritual Development
- Special and Emerging Ministries
- Social Justice/Service/Advocacy
- Diocesan Leadership
- Facilities
In addition, supplemental
cornerstones were added based on the vote of the 96th Diocesan Convention,
2001.
- Prayer and Worship
- Governance
- Communications
- Pastoral Care
- Hospitality
- Ecumenism
Evangelism, Stewardship and Education and Spiritual
Development may provide a rationale for all other Cornerstones and supplemental
emphases. At the start of the Five-Year plan is Education; at its end, is Spiritual
Development - maturity in Christ. Education invites each member of the Body
of Christ to awareness, to reflection and committed action.
The overall goal
of the Five-Year Plan might be stated as an Outcome, or short term vision:
- Desired
Outcome/Vision, short term
- Every person engaged, every person equipped for
faithful service
- Every Episcopalian in Utah equipped for discipleship and
service as envisioned in the Five Year Plan.
Summary Activity/Mission: The
Education and Resource Office seeks to provide age-appropriate, accessible
materials for the Christian education and spiritual formation of individuals
and groups in diocesan congregations and institutions, and in the wider Utah
community.
