Collect for the Second Sunday in Lent

O God, whose glory it is always to have mercy: Be gracious to all who have gone astray from your ways, and bring them again with penitent hearts and steadfast faith to embrace and hold fast the unchangeable truth of your Word, Jesus Christ your Son; who with you and the Holy Spirit lives and reigns, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

Description

Icons, or holy pictures, have been used for millennia primarily within the Eastern Orthodox tradition as windows on the divine and as aids to prayer. The day focuses on the icon as art and as meditative focus. The day includes a field trip to an Eastern Orthodox church near the ECCU.

See Icon Cards for free eCards from the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America. At the site, click on the "about" tab at the top first. Visitors to the site can begin customizing their messages by selecting an icon from a database made up of hundreds of holy images. Each Iconogram functions as both an e-card and a teaching tool. Along with your personalized message to your loved one, ICONOGRAMS.org provides a description of the saint or feast depicted in the icon along with the appropriate hymn for the feast.
