Interim Media Contacts Named at Episcopal Diocese
February 14, 2006
Two priests with broad media experience have been named by the Rt. Rev. Carolyn Tanner Irish to assist in the communications effort of the Episcopal Diocese of Utah.
The Rev. W. Lee Shaw, rector, St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, West Valley City, will be the interim spokesperson for the diocese. He will field inquiries from reporters and writers seeking information about the Episcopal Church in Utah.
The interim editor of the Diocesan Dialogue, the monthly newspaper of the diocese, is the Rev. Richard Snyder. He is vicar at St. Michael's Episcopal Church, Brigham City.
"We are blessed to have such experienced media professionals in our diocese who will be helping following the departure of the Rev. Dan Webster," said Bishop Irish. Prior to ordination the Rev. Shaw served as media relations representative for two Utah state agencies. The Rev. Snyder worked for newspapers in California and Nevada prior to entering seminary.
The Rev. Webster is leaving the diocese after four and half years as director of communications to become the media relations director at the National Council of Churches in New York City. A search for his successor is underway. The Episcopal Church in Utah, with 5,000 members, has 21 congregations in the state and one in Northern Arizona. The church is a diocese of the Episcopal Church USA and is part of the 77-million member worldwide Anglican Communion.
