Holy Listening, Holy Wonder

Holy Listening, Holy Wonder is an invitation to slow down, listen deeply, and attend to the movement of the Holy Spirit in our lives, congregations, and communities. Through prayer, conversation, reflection, and shared worship, participants are encouraged to cultivate a spirit of curiosity and openness as we discern where God is calling us next. This gathering creates space for both personal renewal and communal discovery, reminding us that faithful listening is at the heart of Christian discipleship.

Listening for the Spirit

In a world filled with noise and distraction, Holy Listening, Holy Wonder offers a sacred opportunity to pause and listen. Together, we will explore spiritual practices that help us become more attentive to God's presence, more aware of one another, and more open to the possibilities unfolding before us.

Through guided reflection, prayer, worship, and conversation, participants will engage in practices of deep listening and holy curiosity. Rather than seeking quick answers, we gather to embrace wonder, trusting that God continues to speak through Scripture, community, creation, and the quiet movements of the Spirit.

Whether you are discerning a new ministry, seeking personal renewal, or simply longing for space to listen more deeply, this event offers a welcoming environment for spiritual growth and shared discernment.

Who Should Attend

Anyone discerning lay or ordained ministry, or those supporting someone in discernment.

The Episcopal Diocese of Utah invites all who are prayerfully discerning how the Holy Spirit may be calling them to serve to join us for a day of reflection and exploration: Holy Listening, Holy Wonder.

This gathering is designed for those considering both lay and ordained ministry—individuals sensing a nudge, a question, or a deepening desire to offer their gifts more intentionally within the Church. Whether you are just beginning to wonder or are already in conversation about discernment, this day is for you.

Together, we will:• Reflect on the nature of vocation and call• Engage in guided prayer and intentional listening• Learn about pathways for lay leadership and ordained ministry in this Diocese• Participate in small-group conversation and shared discernment• Ask questions in a supportive, confidential setting

Discerning a call is rarely dramatic. More often, it unfolds through careful listening—attending to the movements of the Spirit in community, in Scripture, and in the quiet convictions of the heart. This day offers space to do precisely that.
