What happens when Episcopalians in Oregon, San Joaquin, Taiwan, and Utah begin working together around the environmental challenges we share?

The Episcopal Church has officially recognized our new Eco-Region Network, bringing our four dioceses together in a common commitment to Creation Care and environmental justice. Our particular concerns include air quality, water scarcity, public health, global industrial pressures, and changing climate patterns.

Now we are looking for an Eco-Fellow to help this new partnership take root and flourish. The Eco-Fellow will serve as the primary coordinator and connector for the network, working with Creation Care leaders across our four dioceses and with The Episcopal Church’s wider Eco-Region Network initiative.

Among the Fellow’s responsibilities will be:

  • Coordinating our regional Creation Care Grant Committee, which will distribute $25,000 in grants to congregations for locally rooted Creation Care projects;
  • Helping plan and coordinate our annual Eco-Region Gathering, bringing together people engaged in Creation Care to learn from one another, share best practices, and strengthen relationships;
  • Sharing stories and producing communications that inform and celebrate Creation Care efforts across the region;
  • Helping us identify and track participating congregations, projects, properties, and emerging opportunities;
  • Supporting grant proposals and other administrative needs of the network; and
  • Participating in quarterly gatherings with Eco-Fellows from across The Episcopal Church.

The commitment averages approximately 10 hours per month, with fewer hours at some times of the year and additional time as the annual gathering approaches.

Our Eco-Region is geographically unusual — and wonderfully so. We are connected by common questions about water, air, food systems, human health, biodiversity, and climate. We are looking for someone who is excited by the possibility of helping people across these very different places learn from one another and act together.

Could this be you or someone you know?

We especially welcome someone with strong organizational and communication skills, an interest in Creation Care and environmental justice, and a gift for connecting people and helping good ideas become collaborative action.

Please send application to Angie Rogers – arogers@episcopal-ut.org.

Together, we can extend Jesus’ Way of Love not only to our neighbors, but to the land, waterways, plants, animals, and communities with whom we share this extraordinary region.
